She married Baron Alain de Rothschild very young, after a mutual coup de foudre, and spent the war in New York, while he was detained in a military camp in Zoest. Until 1945, she remained without news from him and this probably contributed to the life long passion the couple had for each other. The grace and kindness she incarnated were visible till her later years.
When you were invited to her house on avenue Marigny, the refinement and true luxury of the decor, were just a frame to her subtle elegance, beauty and perfect smile. There you always met Maître Raymond de Nicolay, a true friend, who will be auctioning (with Antoine Godeau) her jewelery collection as well as her Saint Laurent and Balenciaga dresses and fur coats at Hôtel Drouot.
The exhibition for the sale took place at Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent and the sale is to profit « Mémorial de la Shoah » presided by her son Eric de Rothschild.
The incredible natural pearl necklaces, emerald broaches from Fulco di Verdura, René Boivin gold earrings and algae broach, are way beyond my means but I started fantasizing about a little holly broach (1000-1200€) and a Philippe Venet Haute couture red coat.
The sale promises to be a travel through time, especially when the dress she had made for the Proust ball at château de Ferrières will come on sale.(November 18 th, at 2 pm, Room 6 at Hôtel Drouot)
