Aux Vieux Garçons, a cosy lunch place…

Couteaux seashells to start with, a true winner

The corner of Bd Raspail, rue du Bac and Bd St German is a pretty fancy part of the city and it is therefore a miracle to find there a good earthy French restaurant where you will always be surprised by the quality of products. Three friends including a Basque chef, Maxime Pettré, run this real bistrot called Aux Vieux Garçons, which means in French unmarried men.

The menu changes every day

You can have a ladies lunch with couteaux en persillade and foie gras or a Sunday dinner (it’s open every day for dinner) with joue de cochon braisée and confit de canard. There is a lunch menu for 20€ which is unbeatable. The day I went, we could choose carrot and coriander soup or pannacotta of basilic and parmigiano and pork or steak. All were very tasty.

The card is mostly classical with Oeufs mimosas, leeks vinaigrette, Foie gras or baked scallops in their shell, onglet de boeuf or lamb, cod and kidneys! Prices range from 50 to 60 € for a full menu with wine and the atmosphere is cool, unpretentious and cosy.

The vegetable pannacotta was very light to start

They are open on Sunday nights which is wonderful for Paris. (Aux Vieux Garçons, 213 bd Saint Germain, Paris 7, reserve at 01 42 22 06 57)
