On rue du Faubourg St Denis, Bistro Urbain is a winner

It was a nice surprise, since going to one of your friends restaurant can be a real disappointment, but this summer outing at Bistro Urbain recommended by my young friend Matthias Weber, was a real delight. It is fashionably located in the 10 th near Gare de l’Est on the rue du faubourg St Denis which is a bobo destination for 30 to 40 year old couples. The name comes from the owner/manager Samuel Urbain!

Many alcohols at the bar and excellent wines

Wines are listed by price not by regions and spritz is served as well as gin and tonic

The waitress Afida was fun and full of steam, trying to juggle with the August customers and the open kitchen was efficient and good.

I did not choose the watermelon soup but had a fabulous goat cheesecake to start, (a way to soothe my addiction with not too much sugar) and the tartare de bœuf chosen by my friend was very pretty to look at and delicious. No grilled tofu for me as a main course but the lamb roast with carrots and vegetable and I could also have picked the pintade. Dessert of terrine de fruits d‘été was disappointing but the “petite mais jolie” not so small cheese plate was fabulous.

The decor is simple and the food delicious in this bobo bistro

The whole dinner was fun, with a very pretty young man celebrating his birthday at the next table and many sexy girls parading around, soft good music and the neighbor coming to the kitchen to order his dinner. I chose a bordeaux, Château Maucaillou’s second wine (B de Maucaillou) sold by the 50c « pot », and I loved it. The total bill of 100 euros for two was reasonable. I will definitely go back.
