La grande Serre is transformed in a jungle of orchids with the association of private growers and state institutions.

Jardin des Plantes is a destination which is often underused and until March 11 th, the 7 th   Festival of orchids is taking place in the Grandes Serres. Four institutions are represented here and four commercial shops have a booth where you can buy your own very special plant. There are 600 species at the Museum and you will discover how tiny these plants can be. Don’t miss it and make sure to arrive before 4.15 pm otherwise you will not be let in…

The most fascinating species are the orchids with roots that hang out, the epiphyte

At the Versailles arboretum of Chèvreloup, historical orchids are saved and reproduced in vitro for collectors. This is where the collections of the Jardin des Plantes, originally imported from Asia and Madagascar in 1798, were recreated after they were destroyed in WW2. Jardin botanique de la Ville de Paris grows them in its famous Auteuil greenhouses as do the Luxembourg gardens. At Jardin des Plantes, these three doctoral institutions are showing a fantastic selection of orchids and two associations give you advice on the spot.

Until March 11. Jardin des Plantes, 57 rue Cuvier.
