Visiting Musée Guimet is like traveling to Cambodia, China, Japan and India the same morning. It is a fabulous adventure of the mind and of the senses. And it is a five minute walk from place de l’Alma.

There are constantly contemporary art exhibitions organized to attract local crowds who know the museum well, but what is really interesting is the permanent collection of fabulous treasures brought back by different archeologists over the time. Angkor Wat is particularly well represented with huge statues.

I was happy to see an exhibition of vintage photographs including many by Marc Riboud in China and to discover Japanese bamboo artist, Tanabe Shouchiku III who created a special installation on the top floor with 8 000 bamboos.

It is good omen to produce bamboo and the plaiting of it is an apprenticeship that Tanabe learned with his grand-father and father. The effect is fun!
Photographs by Japanese artist Anaki, in the underground floor are very famous for their crudity and violence. I definitely do not like them.

(Until September 19, Musée Guimet, Place d’Iéna, closed on Monday)
