The best moment of the week in Paris has been going to see Spectre, the new James Bond movie with Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux and Monica Belluci. It is a long film, 2h 28 mms, and it takes you around the world, from Mexico City to London , Rome, the Austrian Alps, Tangiers and the Moroccan desert. The best entertainment in a long time.
It has all the James Bond accessories, air planes, helicopters, fast cars (Aston Martin DB 10), boats, lovely suits and dresses, incredibly slick modern buildings, including a clinic on top of a mountain (the Ice Q Restaurant) and a romantic old chalet near lake Altaussee.
Sam Mendes’s direction is beautiful and the camera work so esthaetical that I was jumping on my seat with excitement. Ralph Fiennes is as stern and attractive as ever, Monica Bellucci is the sexiest widow you have met and Daniel Craig is, for the fourth time, a very strong Bond. The music by Thomas Newman is perfect and this 24 th film inspired by Ian Fleming, a real success.
But the cherry on the cake is definitely Léa Seydoux with her very particular nose and lips (inherited from her mother Valérie Schlumberger), her ingénue face and her sex appeal.
The boat race on the Thames, the car race in Rome around the Vatican and along the Tiber, the air race in the Austrian mountains, are all wonderfully filmed and give you the impression of traveling with no effort. It took 7 months to film and many million dollars, but it is all worthwhile.
If you need a change of mind, rush to the theatre, it is very cleansing !
