When I was a little girl, Easter vacation was a major event. We would all leave Paris for a fortnight in la Sarthe, and egg chasing was a major event on the croquet lawn and around the rose trees. I once received a furry white rabbit which played drums and it remained a great moment of my childhood. Easter comes very early this year on March 28 th and you should be thinking about where to get your chocolate eggs. Last year, daffodils were out and I found a lovely yellow bird on the lawn on Easter Sunday !

But this year, I will buy surrealist eggs at Jadis et Gourmande, who uses cacao 71%, and will give back one euro per sale to UPIJE, an association for underprivileged children. This small group of chocolate shops, was founded by Istvan d’Eliassy some fourty years ago. It is now run by his daughter, Domytile, and it is always inventive and fairly priced.

My favorite shop is near Hermès, on rue Boissy d’Anglas, but there is another one on rue des Archives in the Marais and they are already well-stocked!

And if you are looking for a really glamorous three day egg hunting event, try Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte where contemporary artists have painted the eggs that you are encouraged to find in the Le Nôtre gardens. What could be more glamorous?
