Founded in December 2006 by Professor Aimery de Gramont, the world renowned colon cancer specialist, Fondation A.R.CA.D devotes its actions to information and research on digestive cancers such as colon, pancreas, stomach and liver. The 10 th anniversary of the Foundation was celebrated in Paris, at Cercle Interallié, with many members of its International group.
Through the International A.R.CA.D group which meets twice a year at ASCO with its seventy members from all around the world, the foundation has developped a number of position papers which are changing the ways digestive cancers are treated.
Pragmatic actions are conducted in France to help detect different pathologies and inform the patients. International data bases are used to study digestive tumors and A.R.CA.D (Aide et Recherche en CAncérologie Digestive) helps finance new technologies. It also publishes free guide books devoted to helping patients and their families on a daily basis.
A number of former patients attended the dinner and their gratitude was incredibly moving. 80 000 people die every year in France of such cancers and a better information could save thousands.
For this purpose, a gigantic plastic colon sponsored by A.R.CA.D travels around France all year round so that everyone can find out about the disease and prevent it with colonoscopies.
Professor Axel Grothey had come from the Mayo clinic in Minnesota with which A.R.CA.D is conducting data based research, and many other professors had come from European countries and Tokyo like Professor Masashi Fujii.
The discussion led by Hervé Claude between Aimery de Gramont and Mariella de Bausset explained how more than 8 million€ have been spent in the last ten years to prevent digestive cancers through A.R.CA.D.
Dinner was nonetheless excellent with a chef d’œuvre prepared by charcuterie Verot, called an « Oreiller de Houdan », a pâté shaped as a pillow, and gigot de sept heures and fish cassolettes were prepared by the chef of Cercle Interallié.
Many young people attended the dinner including television personality Laurie Cholewa who organises every September at l’Olympia a special musical evening to benefit research in Pancreas cancers.
Progresses are made every year and thanks to A.R.CA.D, research is determinant. You can find out all information on www.fondationarcad.org/
