Castle, 1911-12 by Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso

It’s always puzzling to find out that famous painters abroad, in this case, in Portugal, can remain totally unknown in Paris and around the world. Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso died at 30 in 1918 after having lived in Paris for 8 years at the height of the Montparnasse artistic movement. A friend of Modigliani and Brancusi, he exhibited in Germany and at the Armory show in New York in 1913 but also at the French Salon in 1912.Read More

Les Fables de la Fontaine, a cosy and modern restaurant

I was so surprised to get a table one day ahead at Les Fables de la Fontaine, which is constantly full, that I did not immediately realize the reason for it:   it is located right in the Football fan zone of the Champ de Mars, which is totally closed to traffic for the period of the “Euro”. So it took us a little time to actually walk there from Pont de l’Alma, but it made the charming welcome and the delicious food, even more precious.

Paris is so drepressing at the moment with the high waters and the constant transport strikes that it was a blessing to find a delicious soufflé for lunch at the Halles where I went to see the new canopy. Champeaux, a « Ducasse » restaurant opened by Olivier Maurey who founded Ludéric and the Mini Palais, looks like an office cafeteria from the outside but it is actually comfortable and waiters are lovely.Read More

Louis Tinayre, La chasse aux pagophiles sur la banquise, 1916

Visiting Musée de la Chasse in the Marais is always a great experience, and this small and chic museum has become the best shared « secret » for demanding visitors. The reason for it is Claude d’Anthenaise, its excellent director. But it’s not always easy to revive an 18 th century house devoted to stuffed animals and paintings of hunters. This time with “Safaris Safarix”, the miracle has happened again. The exhibition of a hundred pieces of modern and contemporary art focused on hunting in Africa, is great fun. And certainly a nice derivative from floods, strikes and football .Read More

Claire de Montesquiou has developed white rosé and red along her armagnac at Espérance

Claire de Montesquiou has developed white, rosé and red wines with her armagnac at  Domaine d’Espérance

It was worth going to Claire de Montesquiou’s Spring wine sale just for the pleasure of chatting with her and of getting two sexy young men to accompany me to the car, with heavy cases of wine. I am a faithful lover of Espérance white wine, a beautiful dry Cuvée d’Or in white glass bottles.Read More
